What are the Regions of the United Kingdom?

This quiz covers 12 regions of the United Kingdom: the nine regions of England plus Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The English regions, such as the North West, the South East and London, were set up as Government Office Regions in 1994 to coordinate the work of the national government. They were later used for statistics and as constituencies for European Parliament elections until the UK left the EU in 2020. Apart from London, which has had an elected mayor and assembly since 2000, the English regions have no elected government of their own. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are the UK's other constituent countries and have had their own devolved parliaments or assemblies since 1999.
