What are the Counties of Ireland?

This quiz covers the 26 traditional counties of the Republic of Ireland. The island of Ireland has 32 counties in total, six of which form Northern Ireland. The counties were created gradually by Anglo-Norman and English administrations, beginning with Dublin in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and ending with Wicklow in 1606, often based on older Gaelic kingdoms and lordships. They are grouped into the four historic provinces of Leinster, Munster, Connacht and Ulster. Local government has since been reorganised, with Dublin split into several council areas and Tipperary's two ridings reunited in 2014, but the traditional counties remain central to Irish identity, Gaelic sports and everyday addresses.

Current quiz contains 26 counties: Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laoighis, Leitrim, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow.
